Jubilee Campus, University of Nottingham

Jubilee Campus at the University of Nottingham called for interior acoustic treatment that could work as part of the visual identity of several education spaces. Across the Nottingham campus, the finished rooms combine excellent hung acoustic baffles with carefully considered acoustic wall panels and suspended ceiling finishes. The result is a varied palette that gives each room its own character while keeping the acoustic approach coherent.

The brief

The University of Nottingham required acoustic treatment appropriate to active learning and shared campus use. The brief was not limited to one room type: the photographs show distinct interiors, with black and white finishes used in different rooms and colour used where the design called for it. Every installation needed to read as a deliberate part of the interior rather than an afterthought added above or beside the teaching environment.

For a busy Nottingham university campus, that means paying close attention to the relationship between the ceiling plane, walls, lighting and the room's day-to-day use. Our work was planned around the visible architectural finish, with acoustic panels and baffles positioned to support the overall composition of each space.

What we installed

The project includes acoustic panelling in Merrick, purple and blue finishes from TVS Acoustics. These acoustic wall panels introduce colour and texture to the rooms while forming a clear part of the interior scheme.

Above, hung acoustic baffles were installed in black and white finishes in different rooms. The baffles create a strong overhead rhythm without treating the whole ceiling as a single enclosed plane. They sit alongside suspended ceilings visible across the project, with the ceiling finish and suspended elements considered together. Where the scope called for hanging treatment, our acoustic rafts and baffles service provided the specialist installation focus.

The gallery begins with installation-stage views of the black ceiling and white baffles, then moves to finished views of the white ceiling and baffles. It records stages and finishes across the work, rather than presenting every image as a strict before-and-after pair.

Before and after

The installation-stage and completed images show how the ceiling and wall language comes together. The hung baffles break up the overhead view, while the acoustic panels provide a clear finish at wall level. Black baffles give one room a confident, graphic presence; white baffles keep another room light and open. Purple and blue wall panels bring a further layer of identity.

This is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Each room at Jubilee Campus has its own setting, so the combination of acoustic panels, baffles and suspended ceilings was allowed to respond to the finish shown there.

The result

The completed interiors give University of Nottingham staff and students a series of spaces with a coordinated acoustic and visual finish. The baffles and acoustic panels are integral to what visitors see on entering each room, not hidden technical additions. The black, white, purple and blue finishes make the treatments legible while supporting the wider education setting.

For the University of Nottingham, the project demonstrates how acoustic panelling and suspended baffles can sit comfortably within contemporary campus interiors. It is a practical example of specialist interior work that respects both the visual brief and the needs of a busy learning environment.
