Rockfon Installations

Stone wool acoustic ceiling systems, part of the Rockwool Group

Regular Installer

Rockfon is a Danish acoustic ceiling systems manufacturer and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Rockwool Group, the world's largest stone wool manufacturer. The brand supplies stone wool ceiling tile, free-hanging rafts and baffles, and monolithic ceiling systems across healthcare, education, commercial offices and industrial environments. Stone wool's inherent non-combustibility (Class A1 reaction-to-fire), high humidity resistance and Class A acoustic absorption make Rockfon one of the principal technical specification choices for healthcare and education environments in the UK. We install Rockfon systems as a regular part of our ceiling specification base. Eastledge has held Rockfon approved installer status since 2011.

Rockfon at a glance

Rockfon is the acoustic ceiling systems brand of the Rockwool Group, the Danish company that is the world's largest manufacturer of stone wool (mineral wool made from basalt rock and recycled content). Established to develop ceiling tile and acoustic system applications for the stone wool product, Rockfon supplies ceiling tiles, grid systems, free-hanging acoustic units, and monolithic ceiling systems across commercial, education, healthcare and industrial environments in the UK and internationally.

Stone wool's composition gives Rockfon products two inherent technical advantages over conventional mineral fibre tile. First, fire performance: the basalt rock core achieves Class A1 non-combustible classification under EN 13501-1, the highest possible reaction-to-fire rating. Second, humidity resistance: Rockfon tile ranges can be specified for environments with continuous high relative humidity, including commercial kitchens, swimming pool surrounds and clinical wet rooms, where standard mineral fibre tile would sag, distort or degrade. Both properties are published in Rockfon's product data sheets and system documentation.

Product ranges Eastledge installs

Rockfon Color-all is the volume stone wool lay-in tile, the standard Rockfon specification across commercial offices, education and retail environments. Available in 600 x 600 mm and 1200 x 600 mm standard formats with smooth white face and a full colour range, Class A1 fire reaction and Class A acoustic absorption (αw 0.95 on standard product). The Color-all range drops into the Rockfon T24 and T15 grid systems.

Rockfon Tropic is the high humidity stone wool tile, rated for continuous relative humidity up to RH 100% without sagging, distortion or loss of performance. Class A1 fire, Class A acoustic absorption, 600 x 600 mm and 1200 x 600 mm formats with square and tegular edge details. The specification for commercial kitchens, changing rooms, washrooms, swimming pool surrounds and food-service environments where standard mineral fibre tile is not adequate.

Rockfon MediCare is the healthcare-specification tile: stone wool core with a bacteriostatic agent integrated into the sealed wipeable face, supporting clinical cleaning regimes in consultation rooms, treatment spaces, dental and ophthalmic practices, and GP surgery and health centre environments. Class A1 fire, Class A acoustic absorption, humidity-resistant. The MediCare tile competes in the same specification space as Zentia Bioguard, Ecophon Hygiene and Knauf Ceiling Solutions Vidicare; system selection on each project follows the architect's specification.

Rockfon Mono Acoustic is the monolithic ceiling system, stone wool tiles set into a concealed grid with flush-finished joints, presenting as a continuous flat ceiling plane with no visible T-bar. Specified where the project brief calls for a seamless aesthetic without sacrificing demountable service access, Class A1 fire performance or Class A acoustic absorption.

Rockfon T-system grid (T24 and T15) is the standard exposed Rockfon grid: 24 mm and 15 mm visible flange in standard white and architectural finishes, engineered and tested alongside the Rockfon tile ranges as a complete system.

Where Rockfon is specified

In healthcare environments, Rockfon MediCare is the standard clinical specification: Class A1 fire, sealed wipeable face, bacteriostatic treatment, and humidity resistance suited to treatment and consultation environments. Rockfon Tropic is specified in commercial kitchen and catering facilities, washrooms and changing areas within the broader healthcare estate.

In education environments, Rockfon Color-all covers classrooms, circulation and teaching space where the acoustic and fire brief calls for a Class A stone wool tile. Tropic is the specification in school kitchen and catering facilities.

In commercial offices, Color-all is the volume specification: Class A absorption, white face, standard 600 x 600 mm module, T24 grid. Mono Acoustic is specified in higher-specification reception, meeting and breakout environments where the seamless ceiling aesthetic is part of the design brief.

In industrial environments, Rockfon stone wool tiles are specified in welfare blocks, canteen and office facilities within the wider industrial envelope, particularly where humidity and durability requirements exceed what standard mineral fibre tile can deliver.

Installation considerations

Rockfon stone wool tile is heavier than comparable mineral fibre tile at the same format, a consideration for the carrier system design on retrofit projects over existing grid. Grid T-bar deflection and hanger loading should be verified against the tile weight in the system documentation before specification is confirmed.

The Rockfon Mono Acoustic system requires the concealed grid and the flush joint treatment to be specified and installed as a complete package. Using the Rockfon concealed grid rather than a third-party system is the manufacturer's recommendation for the tested system performance and the monolithic appearance. Provisional ceiling heights should account for the concealed grid depth when coordinating with M&E first-fix.

Rockfon Tropic's RH 100% humidity rating applies to the tile in service. It does not change the installation requirement for ventilation and moisture control in the ceiling void above. The building services specification and the ceiling specification need to be coordinated.

Accreditation status

We do not hold or claim "approved installer" status with Rockfon. We deliberately do not use that term in our marketing because it has a defined meaning in the manufacturer-installer relationship and we prefer to describe what we actually have. What we have is a regular installer position across the Rockfon stone wool range (Color-all, Tropic, MediCare, Mono Acoustic), with installation against the manufacturer's published system documentation on every project. We are manufacturer-agnostic at the specification stage: Rockfon is one of the three principal mineral ceiling brands we install across healthcare, education and commercial work.
