Leisure fit-out specialists

Gyms, hotels, food and beverage delivered to brand and timeline.

Sector overview

We deliver fit-out trades to the UK leisure sector: gyms and fitness clubs, hospitality venues, food and beverage interiors, and hotels. Specialism covers acoustic-led ceiling and partition specification, durable finishes for high-traffic environments, and brand-led shopfit detailing for chain operators. Forty years of in-house fixing across leisure, mobilised from our Derby HQ for delivery across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Leisure environments we work in

We deliver fit-out trades across the UK leisure sector: gyms and fitness clubs (national chain rollouts and standalone openings); hospitality venues (bars, members clubs, event spaces); food and beverage interiors (restaurants, cafés, food court units); and hotels (new-build fit-out, public area refurbishment, bedroom corridor refurbishment). Our role is as a specialist subcontractor to the principal contractor or direct leisure client; the brand fit-out standard manual or the architect's drawings drive the specification, and we install to that specification across the trade scope.

The leisure sector sits at the intersection of three demanding specification briefs: acoustic intensity (gym studio, fitness floor, restaurant and bar interiors generate some of the highest sound pressure levels in commercial fit-out); durability under high-traffic use (the cleaning regime, equipment impact and wear that leisure interiors carry are not what commodity office finishes are specified for); and brand-led shopfit consistency (national chain operators run identical fit-out specifications across their estate and the detailing has to install identically site-by-site).

Sector challenges

Acoustic specification is the defining technical challenge of leisure fit-out. Gym studio partitions need Rw 50–60 dB to deliver speech separation between concurrent classes; gym floor ceilings need Class A absorption to control reverberation in the open volume; restaurant and bar interiors need absorbent ceiling and wall specification to keep speech intelligibility above the ambient noise floor. Acoustic specification is not an afterthought, it is integrated into the partition and ceiling scope from design stage.

Durability is the second technical brief. Leisure interiors carry heavy footfall, equipment impact, cleaning regimes and wear that commodity finishes do not survive. Ceiling tile selection skews towards higher-specification mineral fibre and metal systems; partition lining specification skews towards impact-resistant boards in high-traffic zones; finishes selection prioritises wipeable, hygienic and durable specifications. The cost premium over standard commercial specification pays back over the operational life of the interior.

Brand-led shopfit specification is the third challenge for chain leisure operators. National gym, restaurant and hotel chains run consistent brand fit-out specifications across their estate; the detailing has to install identically across every site, not be reinterpreted on a per-site basis. Brand standards typically run to detailed specification manuals covering ceiling tile and grid, partition layout, finishes palette, signage interface and decoration. Working from a brand standard manual is the contractor's principal responsibility on a chain rollout.

Compressed programmes to a fixed operational date and out-of-hours work for refurbishment of operational venues are both routine in this sector.

Our approach

We work for principal contractors and direct leisure clients across the UK on gym, hospitality, food and beverage and hotel programmes. We deliver the full fit-out trade scope (suspended ceilings, acoustic panelling, partitions and dry lining) under one site team. Crews are direct-employed and time-served, mobilised from our Derby HQ for delivery to any location in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Supervisors are in-house. We work to the brand's fit-out standard manual on rollout programmes and to the architect's drawings on standalone schemes.

Acoustic specification is one of our core capabilities in the leisure sector: we install high-performance acoustic stud partitions to British Gypsum and Knauf tested system specifications; absorbent mineral fibre and metal ceiling tile from the major manufacturer ranges; vertical absorber rafts and baffles where the open-volume reverberation brief requires additional intervention; and acoustic wall panelling integrated with the rest of the trade package.

Recent leisure work includes the Gym Group Hendon fit-out with Kingfisher Construction, where high-performance acoustic stud partitions and mineral fibre ceiling specification combined to deliver sound separation between the studio, the gym floor and the changing facilities. The Aston Student Union project, while higher education rather than leisure, sits in an adjacent category: student-facing social space with combined acoustic, feature ceiling and finished partition scope delivered as one package.

If you are scoping a leisure fit-out, whether a gym chain rollout, hospitality refurbishment, restaurant or bar fit-out, or hotel work, we would be glad to discuss the brief. Send drawings, the brand fit-out standard or the architect's specification with the form on this page and we will come back with a clear next step within one working day.

What makes leisure interiors different

  • Acoustic intensity in leisure environments

Gym studio, fitness floor, restaurant and bar interiors generate some of the highest sound pressure levels in commercial fit-out. Acoustic-rated partition assemblies between studios and adjacent space, absorbent ceiling tile and feature absorbers, and structural-grade isolation are routinely specified.

  • Durability under high-traffic use

Leisure interiors carry heavy footfall, equipment impact, cleaning regimes and wear that commodity office finishes are not specified for. Ceiling, partition and dry lining specification has to match the durability brief: Class A1 / A2 finishes, hygienic surfaces, impact-resistant linings.

  • Brand-led shopfit specification

National gym, restaurant and hotel chains run consistent brand fit-out specifications across their estate. Ceiling tile, partition layout, decoration palette and signage interface have to be installed identically across every site in the rollout.

  • Compressed programme to operational date

Leisure fit-out runs to a fixed open date: the gym membership starts, the restaurant trades, the hotel takes bookings. The contractor base needs to mobilise quickly and hold the programme.

  • Live operation refurbishment

Existing gym, hotel and hospitality estates refurbish in occupied conditions, overnight, between trading hours, in phased zones. Crews need to mobilise for night shifts and clean down for trading the following session.

  • Sequencing across the full trade scope

Leisure fit-out compresses dry lining, suspended ceilings, partitions and taping and jointing into a sequence run against the operational date. Trade overlaps have to be planned and supervised tightly.
