Question 1

What types of glazed partition do you install?

Accepted Answer

We install aluminium-framed single and double-glazed partition systems for offices, meeting rooms, education and healthcare environments. This covers standard single-skin framed glazing for borrowed-light screens and corridor walls; double-skin systems for improved acoustic performance; and fire-rated glazed partitions (typically EI 30 or EI 60) where the fire strategy requires transparency at a compartment boundary. We also install frameless structural glazing systems where the brief calls for a minimal-profile appearance.

Question 2

What acoustic performance does a glazed partition achieve?

Accepted Answer

Standard single-skin aluminium-framed glazed partitions with 6 mm float glass typically achieve around Rw 32 to 36 dB, which is adequate for borrowed-light screens between circulation and offices but insufficient for confidential meeting rooms. Double-glazed systems with an acoustic interlayer or an air gap between panes achieve Rw 40 to 48 dB, which covers most meeting room briefs. The actual in-situ performance depends on perimeter sealing, door and hardware specification, and flanking paths through the ceiling void. We confirm the target Rw with the architect or acoustic consultant before procurement.

Question 3

Can glazed partitions be fire-rated?

Accepted Answer

Yes, fire-rated glazed partition systems are available at EI 30 and EI 60 ratings, using specially rated glazing (typically borosilicate or intumescent-filled glass panels) within an approved steel or aluminium framework. The rating applies to the complete tested assembly: frame, glazing, hardware, perimeter details and any integrated doors must all match the system tested under the relevant standard. We install to the manufacturer's system document and coordinate with the fire engineer and building control at pre-start.

Question 4

How do glazed partitions integrate with the ceiling and floor?

Accepted Answer

Glazed partitions fix to a head track at ceiling level and a base channel at floor level, with vertical stiles between bays where the system requires them. On suspended ceiling installations, the head track is fixed to the ceiling grid or the soffit above it, and the junction between the partition head and the ceiling face is detailed to the architect's requirement. We coordinate the glazed partition installation with the suspended ceiling sequence so the grid is in position and accessible for the partition head fixing before the ceiling tiles go in.
