Case study
Burleyfield School received a suspended ceiling refurbishment across its teaching and circulation areas. The project delivered new mineral fibre ceiling grid and tile throughout, replacing ageing ceiling systems to improve the acoustic environment, light reflectance and the overall condition of the learning spaces.
The brief
School ceiling refurbishment programmes typically run during summer holiday periods or over extended school breaks, with the building handed back to the operator before the new term. The brief at Burleyfield School was to remove and replace the existing suspended ceiling throughout the affected areas, integrating with the existing M&E services above and achieving a consistent, high-quality finish across all zones within the programme.
Working in an educational environment requires a clean, controlled approach to dust management, waste removal and the protection of the existing fabric. All debris from the strip-out was removed from the building before the new installation commenced, and the finished areas were cleaned and handed back in a condition ready for immediate occupancy.
What we installed
A standard exposed T-bar grid with mineral fibre acoustic ceiling tile was installed throughout the classrooms and circulation areas. The mineral fibre tile specification was selected for its acoustic performance: Class C or better sound absorption, high light reflectance, and compatibility with the existing fluorescent and LED luminaire types present in the building.
Grid layout was set out to achieve consistent tile size across each room, with perimeter tiles cut to produce balanced margins at the walls. Service penetrations for lighting, smoke detectors and ventilation grilles were coordinated with the existing services layout above the ceiling, with all penetrations cleanly finished.
Programme
The installation was sequenced across the building's areas to maintain a working zone for following trades and to allow areas to be handed back progressively as works completed. The project was delivered within the agreed programme window without remedial work.
