Seventh-day Adventist Church, Nottingham

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nottingham required a suspended ceiling to be completed within a space defined by steep pitched ceiling planes and rooflights. This was a visually demanding part of the interior: the ceiling is a prominent surface, and every change in angle or interruption around a rooflight is easy to see. The finished work gives the room continuous white modular coverage across the ceiling while respecting the geometry already present.

The brief

The brief was to complete a suspended ceiling at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nottingham. The existing roof form created several steeply pitched planes, with rooflights set into the ceiling. Before photographs show incomplete tile coverage across these angled areas, particularly where the ceiling met the rooflight openings.

The task was not simply to fill open areas. The ceiling needed a considered layout that followed each pitched plane and gave a tidy, consistent appearance at every rooflight. As with all suspended ceiling installations, the visible result depends on careful setting out as well as the final fitting of the modular elements.

What we installed

We completed a white modular suspended ceiling across the angled ceiling planes. The work included forming the ceiling neatly around the rooflights so that the modular layout reads as a continuous part of the room rather than a series of unfinished edges.

Angled suspended ceilings call for particular care because the eye follows the slope of the room. Lines that work on a level ceiling can look out of place when they meet a pitch or an opening. The completed ceiling at this Nottingham church responds to those changes in direction and brings the rooflight details into the overall layout.

Before and after

The before images record the challenge clearly. Sections of the pitched ceiling remained without complete tile coverage, and the areas around the rooflights were still to be resolved. They show why this was a difficult suspended ceilings installation: the rooflights break up the same steep planes that the ceiling has to follow.

The after images show the finished white modular ceiling. Coverage now continues across the pitched areas, while the rooflights are cleanly incorporated into the ceiling. The change is especially apparent when viewed along the slope, where the completed surfaces create a more coherent interior.

The result

The Seventh-day Adventist Church now has a complete suspended ceiling that matches the shape of the space and gives the rooflight areas a neat, finished appearance. The project demonstrates the value of accurate installation where a ceiling has to accommodate challenging angles and repeated openings.
