The Clinical Training Centre (CTC) at the University of Nottingham is a purpose-built facility dedicated to healthcare professional education. The building provides high-quality teaching spaces and immersive simulation environments designed to support the practical training of medical, nursing and allied health students at one of the UK's leading universities.
The facility houses clinical skills laboratories, simulation suites and seminar rooms configured to replicate real-world clinical environments, allowing students to develop practical competencies in a controlled setting before working directly with patients. The building represents a significant investment in healthcare education infrastructure at University Park, Nottingham.

Eastledge involvement
Eastledge delivered interior works within the fit-out programme at the Clinical Training Centre. The facility required a high-quality internal finish appropriate to its role as a professional education environment used by the University to train the next generation of clinical staff.
Our scope spanned suspended ceilings and timber feature ceilings across the building's teaching and circulation spaces, ceramic tiling throughout the washroom and wet-area environments, and the installation of TVS Acoustics acoustic rafts and baffles across the main teaching and simulation spaces. All packages were delivered under a single Eastledge contract, coordinated with the principal contractor's programme.
Suspended ceilings and timber feature ceilings
Suspended mineral fibre grid ceilings were installed across the building's teaching rooms, seminar spaces and circulation areas where a standard acoustic ceiling finish was specified. The mineral fibre tile specification was selected to deliver the light reflectance, acoustic performance and maintainability appropriate to a professional education environment.
Timber feature ceilings were installed in selected spaces within the CTC where the design brief called for a warmer, more architecturally considered ceiling finish. The linear timber system was installed and finished to the architect's layout specification, providing the visual character required in the featured areas while maintaining practical access to the services above.
Ceramic tiling
The CTC's clinical skills and simulation environments require internal surfaces that can withstand routine cleaning to the hygiene standards expected in a healthcare-professional training setting. Ceramic and porcelain tiling was specified across washroom and wet-area zones throughout the building.
Eastledge's ceramic tiling operatives prepared substrates, applied appropriate adhesive systems and tiled to the architect's layout and joint specification. Grout selection, joint alignment and finish quality were confirmed against the project's professional-education brief, producing a clean, durable surface consistent with the building's clinical character.
Acoustic baffle installation

The main teaching and simulation spaces at the CTC presented a controlled-reverberation brief. The rooms are high-occupancy and multi-use — shifting between seminar, demonstration and simulation formats — and an open ceiling aesthetic was retained to preserve natural light and visual height. A standard suspended grid ceiling was not appropriate; targeted acoustic treatment was required without closing off the ceiling plane.
TVS Acoustics suspended acoustic baffles were specified and installed across these spaces. The baffles — high-density felt and PET elements in a fabric finish, certified Class A sound absorbers — are arranged in parallel rows and suspended via proprietary overhead hangers fixed to the structural deck above. The installation was coordinated with existing lighting runs and building services to avoid conflicts and maintain the clean ceiling line specified by the design team.
The result is controlled reverberation across the main teaching volumes without compromising the open aesthetic or natural light penetration from the building's full-height window elevations.
Combined package value

Delivering both the ceramic tiling and the acoustic baffle installation through Eastledge's dedicated team simplified the principal contractor's interface and kept both packages aligned with the master programme. A single point of accountability across the interior trades reduced coordination overhead at a critical stage of the fit-out, with sequencing between ceramic preparation and baffle suspension agreed internally rather than across separate subcontractor boundaries.
This combined-package approach is a consistent feature of how Eastledge operates on education and healthcare projects, where multiple specialist finishes packages often sit within the same programme and the same spaces.
