Knauf Installations
Global drywall systems manufacturer with a comprehensive board and framing range
Knauf is a global drywall and building materials manufacturer operating in more than 90 countries, with a significant presence in the UK commercial construction market. We install Knauf board and framing systems across our commercial dry lining, partition and ceiling work, working to the Knauf System Selector documentation on fire-rated and acoustic assemblies.
Knauf is one of the two principal board manufacturers in UK commercial drywall alongside British Gypsum, and its product range and system documentation cover the same breadth of partition, wall and ceiling assemblies. The Knauf System Selector performs the same function as the British Gypsum White Book, providing tested assembly references for fire-rated and acoustic partition work.
Who is Knauf?
Knauf is a privately held German building materials company, founded in 1932 and owned by the Knauf family. The group operates in more than 90 countries and is one of the world's largest plasterboard manufacturers by volume. The UK business operates from a manufacturing base at Sittingbourne in Kent, and the Knauf System Selector is maintained and updated by the UK technical team. The wider Knauf Group includes Knauf Ceiling Solutions (acoustic ceiling systems), Knauf Insulation, and other building materials businesses operating under the Knauf brand.
The Knauf System Selector
The Knauf System Selector is the system specification document covering tested partition, wall and ceiling assemblies using Knauf board and framing products. Each assembly is documented with tested EI fire rating or Rw acoustic performance data, the full component specification required to achieve the rating, and installation guidance. We reference the Knauf System Selector on every fire-rated and acoustic assembly specifying Knauf products, and confirm the tested specification at pre-construction before ordering materials.
The System Selector is also the reference for Knauf's jointing compound and taping systems, which form the finishing stage of the dry lining package. We use Knauf jointing compounds in our taping and jointing work where the board specification is Knauf, following the compound selection guidance in the System Selector for the board type and finish level specified.
Metal framing systems
Knauf supplies its own metal framing sections as part of the Knauf System Selector range. Knauf framing includes C-stud sections in standard partition widths, U-track head and base runner, ceiling sections, and specialist deflection head and shaft wall profiles. Tested assemblies in the Knauf System Selector are documented for Knauf framing with Knauf boards as the reference specification.
We install Knauf framing where the project specification and tested assembly call for it, and equally install independent framing from manufacturers including Hadley Group, Tradeline and Speedline where the project benefits from supply chain flexibility. The framing source must be confirmed against the tested assembly on every fire-rated and acoustic project. We discuss the framing selection at pre-construction and include the system reference in the O&M record at handover.
